Poricha Kootu, Kootu, Lentil Soup, Black Pepper Lentil Soup, Black pepper,jeera,coconut lentil soup is a popular south indian dish that can be used both as a main course and side course.
Note : Vegetables that can be used to prepare kootu include :
1) Cabbage
2) Cauliflower
3) Avarai
4) Chayote/Chow chow
5) Beans
6) Snakeguard,pudalangai
7) White pumpkin,squash
Ingredients :
Pasi paruppu/paitham paruppu - 1 cup
black pepper - 10
jeera/jeeragam - 1 tsp
ghee - 1 tsp
curry leaves - as needed
salt - as needed
vegetable - cut and boiled
coconut - fresh grated - 1 cup
uraddhal,ulutham paruppu - 1/2tsp
Method of Preparation :
1) Cut and boil the vegetables
2) Pressure cook the dhal
3) Heat ghee, roast black pepper, jeeragam
4) Grind this pepper,jeeragam with coconut
5) Mix vegetables, dhal, pepper,jeeragam mixture
6) Heat for 5 minutes
7) Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, urad dhal
8) Mix it with kootu,lentil soup
This can be served hot alongside rasam rice as side dish.It can also be used as a main course.
