The most popular main course in south india can be either samber/kuzhambu or rasam. Vegetables served as a side dish along with these main course can be made in many different form. One such interesting simple dish is cabbage upkari which is also called the cabbage potato palya.
Ingredients Needed
Cabbage - 1/3 finely chopped
Potato (small 1 or 2) - small diced potatoes
Onion - small finely chopped
Ginger - some small grated
Curry leaves - 1 strand
Mustard - as needed
Red chillies - 3 (as per spice requirement)
Salt, oil - as needed
Method Of Preparation :
1) Heat oil in a pan, add mustard and allow to sputter. Add red chillies and fry well. Add finely chopped ginger
2) Add onions and fry till it turns golden brown. Add salt to taste
3) Add the grated cabbage and potatoes. Mix well.
4) Wait till the vegetable is fully cooked
Serve as a sidedish alongside rasam or kuzhambu rice.
