Pulikaichal, Tamarind Paste is the base ingredient used for preparing puliyodhaira/puligore. It can be used as a main course or as a sidecourse alongside tiffins like dosai, idli etc.
Ingredients Needed :
Channadhal/Kadalai paruppu - 1/2 cup
Kothamallivirai,dhaniya - 2 cups
Red chillies - 20
Tamarind - lemon size. Soak tamarind in water and extract syrup/pulp
Oil - as needed
salt - as needed
mustard - as needed
urad dhal/ ulutham paruppu - as needed
curry leaves - as needed
Method Of Preparation :
1) Heat oil in a skillet. Add mustard and allow it to spatter, add urad dhal, curry leaves, tamarind juice/pulp, salt and allow it to boil
2) In a seperate pan heat 2tsp oil. Roast dhaniya, redchillies, channadhal. Cool it an grind them into fine powder
3) Add this powder to boiling tamarind syrup when the tamarind solidifies and becomes a semi-solid.
4) Mix well. Serve hot.
