I always prepare exotic channa masala, channa dhal, channa batura as a sidedish for chapathi,poori. I tried a different version of channa dhal called the channa puli curry that can be used as main course with rice. This is also a best sidedish with tiffins including idlis,chapathi,dosa,poori. Here is the simple procedure to prepare channadhal puli curry (channadhal tamarind dish)
Ingredients Needed :
Onion - 1
Tomato - 1 to 2
Cashewnuts - 2tsp
ginger and garlic - for paste preparation
jeera - 1 tsp
dhanya - dry fried and made into powder
red chillie powder - 1 to 1.5tsp based on spice preference
Salt - as needed
Bay leaves - 3
Tamarind juice - 1/2cup
Oil - as needed
chana dhal - 1 cup pressure cooked and boiled
corriander leaves
lemon juice - 3tsp
Method Of Preparation:
1) Grind the following mixture well - onion,tomato,cashewnuts, ginger,garlic with a pinch of salt
2) Heat oil in a pan and add jeera, 3 bay leaves, add the grinded mixture and cook well until oil oozes out
3) Add tamarid pulp extract and cook well. Add the chillie powder, dhanya powder and allow it to boil
4) Add channa dhal and allow it to cook
5) Add 3 tsp of lemon juice
6) Garnish with corriander and serve hot
