Power plan is the configuration setting that determines how the system should behave if kept idle etc. Power configuration can be done at battery level, AC Adapter level.
Click on Start-->Control Panel-->Power Options
We see two default power plans :
1) Balanced Power Plan
2) Power Saver
In addition we can create new customized power plans to suit our requirements. Click on Create a power plan link on LHS. Give a new name to your power plan. Lets say it is "New customized Power plan". Click Next
We can change the sleep and display settings. It can be changed on battery level as well as AC adapter level. To have good laptop life always keep battery parameters Turn off display, put computer to sleep to a lower value.Change the AC adapter values. On making changes click Create button.Now we see our Power Plan in Power Options Menu. Choose it and set it as the default power plan of your system.
