Google Chrome Key shortcuts
Though I've been using Google chrome for the past few months, today I took some time to understand the nitty gritty details on this fantastic browser. I started exploring the key shortcuts to improve my productivity (increase blogging speed) . Most of the shortcuts are based on the key CTRL (Control Key) :
CTRL+T - Open a new tab
CTRL+W - Closes the current tab
CTRL+tab - cycles through current tabs
CTRL+N - Opens a new Window (New instance of chrome. If you Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete it opens Windows task Manager in which we see two chrome.exe processes)
CTRL+Shift+N - Opens a new incognito Window
CTRL+Shift+T - Opens the last tab you closed.(Similar to undo)
Alt+Home - Opens the home page
CTRL+L - Jumps to the omnibox. Omnibox is a rocking feature in Google Chrome which provides us options when we perform a search. Options gets listed when we type an URL in address bar. This includes websites we visited before, relevant websites, keywords with an icon relevant to them etc. Its a great feature in Google Chrome
CTRL+K - Searches for a word in the omnibox
CTRL+F - Finds text in an open page
CTRL++ - Increases the font size
CTRL+- - Decreases the font size
CTRL+O - Restores the normal font size
CTRL+B - Shows/Hides the Bookmarks bar
CTRL+H - Opens the browsing history
CTRL+J - Loads the download page. This is a feature in Google Chrome which lists the files downloaded previously
CTRL+X - Cuts
CTRL+C - Copies
CTRL+V - Pastes
CTRL+P - Prints the current tab
Shift+Esc - Opens the tab task manager
Google Chrome Delete Cookies BrwosingData
Google chrome the fastest browser has the option that lets us delete the cookies and browsing data. It is a good practice to delete the cookies on a frequent basis. Here are the simple steps to perform this
1) Open the Google Chrome Browser. On the top right corner appears the tools button
2) Right Click the tools icon. Click on Options
3) Google chrome options window opens. Click on Under the Hood tab. Click on Clear browsing data
4) Clear browsing Data Window Opens. Click on Clear Browsing Data. If you want to uncheck certain default options do it. You're done. This removes cookies and browsing data from your google chrome browser
Revert Back Google Chrome Default Settings
Google chrome the most popular browser and my favourite browser has many options that can be tweaked. I did tweak an interesting security feature yesterday that will ask be everytime the browser tries to download a cookie. This turned out to be annoying as I had popups as I navigated from one screen to another. So, I did revert back Google chrome settings to their default value today. This fixed the issue. We can customize default values using which we can change history deletion days, turn off suggestion bar,change download folder,enable pop-ups etc. Here are the steps to revert back the chrome values to their default.
1) Navigate to Google Chrome Browser
2) On top right corner appears the tools icon. Click on options
3) Google chrome options pop-up window opens. Click on Under The Hood tab. At the bottom appears the "Reset To Defaults". Click on it.
4) A popup window asking for confirmation. Click on Reset to defaults
5) This reverts back the google chrome settings to its default values
Google Chrome Version
Have you ever wondered what version of an application are you using now? Unless something demands such as upgrade, compatibility most of us will not be knowing it. I recently thought of browsing the version of my Google chrome and followed the following steps.
1) Launch Google Chrome Web browser
2) Click on tool, choose tab About Google Chrome
3) A pop-up window with details on current version of Google chrome installed in the system appears. There wil be a progress bar checking for updates on a continuous basis. If a new version is available it will give necessary details. We can either update or do it later. Once it is up to date the most recent version is displayed at the bottom
Disable Geolocation Google Chrome
We wonder how the newspapers we read display advertisements relevant to the location we are in. This puzzle has made me explore the option of my default browser Google Chrome to fix the option that lets the advertisers get to know my geo location. We can disable geo location tracking feature in our Google Chrome web browser. Follow these simple steps :
1) Click on tools button at right corner. Click on Options
2) Click on Under the hood tab
3) Click on content settings
4) Click on Location tab (last tab)
5) Click on the radio button - "Do not allow any site to track my physical location". click close
6) Close all the open tabs
Default Search Engine Google Chrome
I've enabled google chrome as the default browser in my system. Still I had Bing as the default search engine. I was wondering if I can really change it to Google (or) Yahoo. Here is the step to change the default Search engine to google, yahoo or any other website. Follow these simple steps :
1) Launch google web browser
2) Click on options tab
3) Click the Basics tab(first tab)
4) We see a section Default Search. Choose the search engine from drop down and click close
