Rahu Mahadasha is a significant dasha that happens in ones life and is said to give the best benefits with rahu placed in 3rd, 6th or 11th houses from ones lagna/lagnam.
So, does this general rule apply for every lagna. There are obvious exceptions. While doing chart analysis always perform analysis based on certain general principles :
1) First look at lagnam/lagna
2) Note down the lagna lord, its friends and its enemies
3) See the house in which lagna lord is positioned. Check if it is his friends house or enemy's house. In case on an enemy see the house in which the enemy planet is positioned. If the enemy planet is in a good house (own, friends, uchasthana) then the lagna lord will generally give favourable results
4) In case of Makara lagnam Rahu gives the best results if placed in 9th house, 9th lord mercury is well positioned in 10th house, 9th house (Libra or Virgo)
