Build/release engineering is a fairly new tram that is being setup in IT organizations. Build involves creating a package from latest development checking. In most IT organizations we get email from build team saying that builds on different ongoing projects have been completed and will be available by so and so date in build server repository. To take up position as a build engineer which is sometimes called release team associate (or) release engineer it needsthe following skillset 1) Knowledge of operating system 2) Knowledge of version control system. Now-a-days organizations are migrating from source control system to ALM the lifecycle management tool like TFS that incorporates all the project management related modules and reporting structures 3) Knowledge of backups and restores of databases. Usually this is taken care of by DBA. Basic knowledge definitely helps 4) Knowledge of build tools like mavern, ant to name a few 5) Good communication skill, organization skill as it involves daily meetings, minute creation to name a few
