This is not my cup of tea attitude

This topic can be controvversial and I leave it to readers view before prestnting my thoughts on this. A firnd of ours recently got a new job in a very great technology firm. When he joined the firm he was assigned some job roles, responsibilities on which he had already worked on. Lets keep it based on past job experience
Now, the new project has a requirement that has been totally unexpected and he has been asked to elarn an happening technology to work on this project. His simple answer is "This is Not My Cup Of Tea"
Lets look at his perspective
1) The latest skill is flaming hot in market
2) This skill will easily help him make 20% more on base. He feels that the new firm cheated him adn wants to squeeze him. IF they are willing to apy more he might consider learning the same
3) He has not been hired to perform additional job duties
4) He can work on items for which he gets paid
Lets take a look at someone who has different opinion
1) Knowledge is power. More you learn more you grow
2) Once you are skilled you become an essential resource in company
3) You grow by adopting more responsibility
You can choose to determine if this is your cup of tea before deciding on this
